Who we are…

Long before Nitehawk was a ranch, it was a tradition. On the prairies, in the Métis communities of Manitoba, the “night hawks” were the cowboys who kept watch while the herds rested. They rode through the dark hours, circling the stock, guarding against predators, storms, or stampedes. Their job was quiet, steady, and essential. They carried the responsibility of safety, and their presence meant peace of mind for every rider sleeping by the fire.

That spirit — watchful, resilient, and rooted in responsibility — is what gave birth to Nitehawk Ranch.

We are a Métis-owned ranch, shaped by the heritage of those night riders and the traditions of working stockmen across the West. Our focus is simple but rare: raising and training horses and mules with real substance. Not just good to look at, but good to work with. Animals that can carry a rider into the branding pen, out on the trail, or across the open prairie with the kind of steady reliability the old night hawks once embodied.

At Nitehawk, we believe horsemanship is more than technique — it’s a way of life. It’s a respect for the animal, for the land, and for the people who came before us. From carefully chosen bloodlines to the patient hours of training, every decision we make carries forward the heritage of those who kept the herds safe by firelight.

Our mission is clear:

To preserve the traditions of Métis stockmanship.

To raise horses and mules that are sound, useful, and true.

And to build a future on the strength of history.

Because here at Nitehawk, the night watch never ends.
